Roadmap
These are improvements we could build. They are not a release plan and they do not have dates. Each one starts from something ClipCook already does: a recipe you can read, amounts stored as numbers, a book you can print, and a library that stays on the phone.
In the kitchen
-
Cooking mode
A saved recipe is one scrolling page: the ingredients, then every step. That is fine for reading. Cooking mode would show a single step, keep the screen awake so the phone does not lock over a pot, and let you tick ingredients as they go in.
-
Scale the servings
Servings and amounts are already stored as numbers, but there is no control to cook for a different number of people. Changing the servings, from two to eight, would recalculate each amount. You would not edit every line by hand.
-
A shopping list
Recipes can already be grouped into a book. They cannot be turned into a list for the shop. You would pick one cookbook, or a few recipes, and ClipCook would merge the repeated ingredients into a single list.
-
Timers on a step
A step often says “bake for 25 minutes” as ordinary text. You copy that number into the Clock app yourself. A timer on that step would start from the recipe.
-
Metric and imperial
Each amount keeps the unit it arrived with, grams or cups, as text. A switch would show the same recipe in metric or imperial without rewriting it.
Bringing a recipe in
-
A normal recipe page
Import today is a shared video, pasted text, a photo, or a recipe you type. A normal recipe URL, a blog post rather than a clip, would be another way in. You would still review the draft before it is saved.
-
Ask only for the missing amounts
When a measurement is only on screen, you can already paste a transcript or add photos, and any ingredient with no amount stays marked. A shorter review would ask only for those gaps, instead of walking the whole recipe again.
Books and other devices
-
Hand someone a cookbook
A book can already become a PDF for the printer. That file is for paper, not for another copy of ClipCook. A ClipCook file would let another phone open the same book, recipes included. There would still be no account and no server: the file is the handoff.
-
Edit a book on iPad
The cover, the paper size and the PDF preview are one flow built for the phone. On iPad the editor and the preview could sit side by side, so a change to the cover shows on the page immediately.
-
Widgets and Shortcuts
The share sheet is how a link gets into the library. After that you open the app and search. A widget could put tonight’s recipe on the Home Screen. A Shortcut could send a link in, or open a recipe, without hunting through the library.
If you want the detail of what the app does today, the blog walks through it.
