OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or another API.
If this iPhone cannot run Apple Intelligence, Settings lets you point extraction at a provider you already pay for. The choices are OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and any API that speaks the OpenAI format: Groq, DeepSeek, Together, Ollama and the rest.
You paste the key in Settings. It stays on this device. On iPhone it is kept in the Keychain. ClipCook does not receive it, and it is not part of the iCloud copy of your recipes. For a compatible API you also set the base URL. After the key is saved, the app loads the models on that account and you pick one.
What leaves the phone
The text of the recipe is sent to that provider with your key, so they can return ingredients and steps. Their pricing applies. ClipCook does not add an account on top, and it does not store the key on a server of its own.
You can remove the key from Settings at any time. If you would rather not send the text anywhere, write the recipe yourself. That path does not need a provider.
Where the saved recipes go after that is in the recipes live with your Apple ID.
